Adoption Information

Adoptions can be one of the most rewarding ways to solidify a family unit.

North Carolina law permits multiple types of adoptions from being considered by the Department of Social Services, to privately placed adoptions, to step-parent adoptions. All of these options have their ups and downs emotionally, and logistically. A skilled attorney can help guide a family through the requirements of being considered for an adoption, and finalizing all necessary paperwork.

One important consideration we ask families to consider when they find themselves in a blended household is: 'what will happen to the kids if one of the parents passes away before the kids all reach 18?' That can be a very intimidating question to ponder. But the time to decide is now, not when it is too late.

For some families, the other biological parent is able to step up and continue to raise the minor child. However, for other families, the other biological parent has only been a DNA provider and not much of a parent.

In these situations, we ask families to consider adoption as it will legally bind the family together for a multitude of purposes, including the tragic loss of life.

Our lawyers at Remington Locker Law, PLLC  can help navigate these difficult considerations and discuss if a Termination of Parental Rights should be considered.
