Many families who never pictured themselves being involved in the criminal justice system find themselves in just such a position by a family member who has become addicted. Worse yet, you find that a family member who has fallen on hard times has made the poor choice of selling drugs.
Drugs are divided into schedules. The numbers assigned indicate whether a drug has any medicinal value and that value is weighed against the drug’s likelihood of inducing an addiction in its users. For instance, methamphetamine has (according to medical experts) no medicinal value and it is extremely addictive thereby ranking it at the highest schedule – Schedule I. Marijuana, on the other hand, has (according to medical experts) no medicinal value but it also not addictive and it therefore is a level VI, the lowest schedule. Other common drugs scheduled are cocaine (II), heroin (I), oxycontins and percocets (II), ritalin and adderall (II), xanax and klonopin (IV) among a large number of other drugs and their derivatives or compounds.
All of these drugs tend to cause problems that are very common and are shared at every socioeconomic level, from wealthy families to families of lesser means. There are often underlying problems that need to be addressed with the user, and an attorney accustomed to being very blunt with the person charged can be a tremendous asset in starting the user down the path to recovery.
Folks charged with crimes involving opiates such as prescription pain killers or heroin or methamphetamine or cocaine are very accustomed to manipulating those around them. Any attorney helping such people must be experienced with handling addicts and drug dealers, not just the criminal justice system.
The attorneys at Remington Locker Law Firm can’t help every person escape the lifestyle involved in drugs. By addressing the real issues involved, however, and using the knowledge of the resources available, we strive to assist everyone ready to leave that lifestyle behind. We will do that while attempting to build a case for the client that shows not only the court, but also the client, that there is a real person capable of contributing meaningfully to society.
Cases involving drug sales, trafficking, or transporting are a different kind of case and demand a different approach from the attorney. These types of cases are some of the most difficult to guide to a favorable ending without having to go to trial because of the damage that drugs have done to our society. If, for some reason, the case is not one that we advise the client to take to trial, there are approaches to these types of cases that can be explored but time will usually be of the essence in those scenarios so you must call and get us started on your case.
Remington Locker Law Firm, PLLC can show you the difference between our firm and others.
